Cecil’s Historic District Open House provides a unique Southern Maryland experience.

Every year, Cecil’s Country Store celebrates the start of the Christmas Holiday Season with their Christmas Open House. On the first Saturday in December the businesses at Cecil’s Historic District welcome their friends and neighbors to enjoy the festive holiday decorations, including their special traditional window displays. The store is bursting with beautifully decorated Christmas trees, holiday music, and fantastic Christmas gifts for everyone on your list.

Across the street at Cecil’s Old Mill, Bill Clements and his crew are hard at work on a very special and rare treat. Once a year during the Christmas Open House, they fire up the antique saw mill and demonstrate how lumber was produced when the old mill was a working saw mill. You won’t want to miss this!

Cecil’s Historic District is home to Cecil’s Old Mill and Cecil’s Country Store, a unique shopping experience. Located at the southern end of Indian Bridge Road just before it reaches Rt. 5 in Great Mills, Cecil’s Historic District is a favorite destination of Southern Maryland residents looking for special gifts, antique furniture, locally produced honey & jellies, and unique handcrafted arts & crafts.

Both locations are steeped in St. Mary’s county history. Cecil’s Country store was not only the original “super” market of its day – selling groceries, produce, meats, dairy and household essentials – it was also the local post office. Remnants of the original grocery store and post office are still on display. The post office is known to be a favorite location for spotting Santa. The store currently features antique furniture, home décor, Route One products and apparel, designer jewelry, paintings and prints by local artists, along with other unique gifts.

During the Open House, there will be personal appearances by local artists and vendors displaying their unique art and products. Bear Creek BBQ will be on site with their delicious pulled pork BBQ and other tasty treats! Be sure to mark your calendars and save the date. The folks at Cecil’s Country Store and Cecil’s Old Mill look forward to seeing you on December 2nd!
