Anthony Obedoza spearheads the company as both the general manager and lead designer. In the 12 years he’s been remodeling, Anthony has helped thousands of people design their ideal kitchens and bathrooms. His expansive knowledge in all types of flooring, cabinets, countertops, fixtures, accessories, construction, and of course, design, helps him to simplify even the most complicated remodels and make someone’s vision truly come to life.
In both 2015 and 2016, Anthony was the recipient of Remodeling Magazine’s Remodeling 550 Award and was inducted into the Remodeling Magazine’s Big 50 in 2016 – an honor reserved for the best remodelers in the country that use the best practices. Anthony is highly involved in all aspects of the business and frequently coordinates with his entire management team, including their production manager, Darryl, and production coordinator, Shannon, to develop the systems for the production of projects. He also manages the budget and works with their office manager, Linda, and personally trains their sales, design and service staff.
“Our team is great and gives me the opportunity to do what I really enjoy – helping our clients design amazing spaces for life!” says Anthony. “I love the challenge our clients present us with their space and love thinking out of the box to help them solve it.”
When it comes to home improvement, no request is too complicated for Anthony and his team. “Most of our clients come to us because no one else can help solve their design dilemma,” says Anthony. “Whether it is because they want to ‘age in place’ and need their home to be more ADA accessible; want amazing storage, or a more functional kitchen, bath or closet; or just need help with putting colors and textures together, our designers specialize in all of those things.”
Although the majority of the projects that come to Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design are large renovations, not all remodels have to be complete teardowns for them to take on. “Sometimes clients only want to replace countertops or add a backsplash.”
However, being a full-service remodeling firm, no project is too big, including basement design and additions. “For larger projects and major bathroom and kitchen renovations like this, most of our clients like that they can come to us for all of their needs: from ceiling to floor!”
Free Design Consultation
When a client is interested in beginning a project with Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, floors & Design, they first schedule a free design consultation. In an effort to learn more about what the client is looking for, each customer fills out an online questionnaire prior to the on-site consultation. When the designer visits the home, they will then take measurements and discuss the client’s goals in further detail.
“The average design consultation lasts for 30 minutes to an hour, but can vary based on the scope of the project. From there, the designer will create a 3D rendering of the design,” said marketing assistant Brianna Partridge. “In some cases, for flooring or countertop only jobs for example, the 3D rendering is not necessary. The designer then invites the client to our showroom to view the design and select materials. From there, the designer will be able to give the client an accurate price for the client’s project. Then, it’s up to client to move forward with the project!”
As with all assignments, time schedules vary from project to project. A job such as replacing countertops can only take a day whereas a full kitchen or bathroom “gut job” and rebuild could take a few weeks. “We work alongside our customers to create individual experiences and communicate a schedule based on their specific project.”
Costs and Financing
“The price of a remodel really depends on the type of project, scope of work and the materials selected,” Anthony said. “We often refer to the ‘Cost Verses Value Report’ from Remodeling Magazine when discussing potential costs with clients.”
According to the report, the average minor kitchen remodel in Southern Maryland goes for around $21,000. A “minor kitchen remodel” refers to replacing flooring, countertops and cabinets. The cost of the job, however, could always be more or less depending on the type of materials chosen and intensity of the work. The same report also states that the average 5’x7’ bathroom remodel is around $19,000. “We can usually work with most reasonable budgets and can gear the design to the customer’s budget, says Brianna.
While the price of a remodel can be a deterrent for many customers, Southern Maryland Kitchen, Bath, Floors & Design offers 0% financing for 18 months for qualified buyers through Synchrony Financial and accepts all major credit cards. “We also bill the project based on milestones, so customers don’t have to pay for the entire project up front.”
