Group therapy has other benefits that include peer support, improved self-esteem, increased feelings of “normalcy,” better insight into feelings and needs, improved skills to connect with and relate to others and strengthened systems of support.

While known for individual and family therapy, Blue Sails Counseling also offers group therapy.

Currently, Blue Sails Counseling has a teen group each Wednesday at 6 pm. This group is facilitated by a therapist who occasionally provides psychoeducation or skills training when group participants express or demonstrate a need to learn specific skills.

The RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis/Fibromyalgia) Group is a peer-led group of ladies who meet as needed. Peer groups often allow participants to not only share experiences but to socialize and form friendships.

Regular group social outings allow group members to engage in group activities in natural settings.

Transition Group: The transition to adulthood offers young adults the opportunity to be more independent, meet challenges and make life-changing decisions. This group is geared toward young adults who would like to improve their social and emotional well-being.

Middle School Group: This group seeks to help tween and teens strengthen their sense of self and create peer connections to help them navigate middle school friendships.

Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS): This short-term program focuses on changing challenging behaviors of children who are at risk of residential treatment or returning from residential treatment. Services are provided in the home and other settings where challenging behaviors take place. TBS services are billable through medical assistance. Blue Sails Counseling will be accepting referrals for TBS services starting July 2018.

Yoga: Through yoga, clients can learn skills to improve social and emotional learning. Social and emotional learning improves social behaviors, student attitudes toward school, and reduces stress by improving the following skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. In September 2018, Blue Sails Counseling will be launching a yoga program for students and teachers!
